Daily Sketch 145: Sherry Cruz and SUPER-8

Shadow Ignition character.

Sherry Cruz is a salvager - one who ventures down to the irradiated ruins of the surface in search of treasures and relics from the past. To survive the trip, she rides in SUPER-8, an enormous suit of steam-powered armor that safeguards its pilot from radiation. She used to operate the business with her brother Joshua, but he mysteriously vanished over a year ago and Sherry hasn't heard from him since.

She's good friends with Billy Banzai!, having once saved him from certain doom when he tried to take on an entire gang of bandits single-handedly, and they occasionally chase bounties together when the salvager gig isn't paying well. Like Billy, she's trying to track down the Shadow of Death, but not for the bounty - Sherry just thinks that the Shadow is a colossal badass and wants to get her autograph. (She and Billy regularly get into arguments about whether the Shadow is a man or a woman.)

Sherry fights while piloting SUPER-8 and is Shadow Ignition's token "big slow grappler" character. The twist is that, as Sherry fights, SUPER-8 will gradually accumulate power in a special gauge. When the gauge is full, performing one of SUPER-8's grapples will cause its arms to shoot off as an unblockable projectile, allowing Sherry to execute her grabs at long distances, sorta like the opposite of Iron Tager. Apart from that little gimmick, she's pretty straightforward.

Useless Trivia: SUPER-8 is actually a design I planned to submit for Capcom's "Design a boss for Megaman Legends 3" contest. (Of course, Capcom pulled the plug on that...) His original pilot was intended to be Teisel Bonne, so his color palette is green and white.

Given the nature of this design, it is highly likely that I'll end up revising it the next time I draw these characters.
